Starting from humble beginnings at the age of 10 Carlton kept a few chickens, rabbits and the odd little pig. Later with wife Judith, they expanded into delivering milk using a traditional horse and cart – seven days a week come rain or shine throughout the local area.
The natural progression was for Carlton to own farm which he achieved and moved into Blue Hills farm. At the time he only had space for 13 cattle, but he very quickly expanded his business so that today he has three farms with a total acreage of 550 and over 800 cattle. Carlton and his son Jonathon only use traditional farming methods allowing cattle, sheep and pigs to graze on the fresh lush grasslands and pastures of the Yorkshire countryside. All of the livestock are allowed to roam freely and feed on the highest quality fodder.
The Farm Shop business expanded rapidly which meant that Carlton and Judith had to cease the milk delivery round and concentrate on developing the farm. Once son Jonathon left school, he learnt his trade from father Carlton and now is an established part of both the farms and farm shop. Daughter Louise works 7 days a week managing the shop and uses her skills to hand link all of the sausages that are sold ect. Ives Farm Shop employs a team of qualified butchers who are on hand to supply traditional cuts of beef, lamb and pork to your requirements. The Blue Hills Farm Shop is truly a family business with Carlton and Judith, Jonathon and Louise all taking an active part in the day to day running and management of both farms and farm shop.
